The word Chakra comes from the Sanskrit language and it literally translates to ‘’wheel’’ or ‘’disk’’. They function in the body as a spinning wheel of energy and consciousness. They are invisible to the eyes but each one plays a key role in circulating the ‘life force energy’ around the body. This allows us to move, think, feel and basically be a human.
The chakra system originated in India in 1500 to 500BC and can be found in the oldest written text known as The Vedas (Ancient Hindu Scriptures). The concept of the chakra system was adapted into the west in the 19th century and is today commonly used worldwide across many holistic healing modalities.
There are thought to be 7 Major chakras in the body starting at the base of the spine and making their way up to the crown. Each chakra is connected to our physical health and corresponds to specific organs, meridians and aspects of the nervous system. For example, if we are coughing or have sore throat, then we might look to the Throat Chakra to explore the connection.
The chakras also connect us on an emotional and spiritual level and again each chakra can relate to different feelings, sensations or life transitions we experience as humans. If we go through a relationship breakup, we often say is that we are heart broken. This refers to the pain we are feeling and essentially there could be a block or imbalance of energy in the Heart Chakra. If our ego feels threatened or is hurt we may use the expression that we have been kicked in the guts; not literally, but it is the feeling associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra.
To help understand their powers; each chakra is characterized with a different lotus flower, colour, name, sound, sense, element, planet, truth, mudra and more. The more you learn about chakras the more fascinating they become, and the easier it is to identify the root cause of various struggles or problems.
Our bodies are not obstacles to consciousness; they are the very vessels through which consciousness knows itself.
The chakras are always shifting and evolving, in the same way that we too are energy in motion, constantly transforming and revealing new layers of awareness.
Working with the chakras is an ever-unfolding journey. As we awaken to deeper layers within ourselves, we harmonize each gateway and are naturally guided towards the next level of who we are becoming.
True energetic alignment is not about striving for perfection or chasing a spiritual high. It’s about gently purifying and balancing your own channel so you can be fully present, alive, and aligned in your own being.
When we become rooted in the physical world and yet open to higher awareness we remember that we are the rainbow bridge between the earth and sky. This is represented to us by the 7 colours of the chakras. Our heart centre is the meeting point of matter and of spirit. It is the integration of instinct and insight and when we honour both our earthly foundation and our spiritual nature, that bridge becomes alive within us. We are not here to escape the human experience but to fully inhabit it.
True devotion isn’t about transcending our human experience but about blessing our entire existence. We do this by bringing awareness into our relationships, our choices, our creativity and our daily lives. In doing so we remember that wholeness is not found above, beyond or outside of us, but here, in embracing the full essence of who we are.
Working with the Chakras: A Note on Integrity and Discernment
In the evolving fields of holistic healing, personal growth and conscious exploration many people are now encountering expanded models such as the twelve-base chakra system. While these frameworks may offer symbolic or interpretive value, discernment is essential. New energetic maps are not inherently truer simply because they have new labels and categorizations. These nuance structures could help people who work with the unseen world. However, without strong grounding in the physical body and the core energetic centres, expansion can become dissociation rather than awakening.
True and false energetic fields can and do exist within spiritual teachings.
As you engage with this work, let your inner knowing be your guide. Chakra work is not about striving to “get somewhere,” chasing altered states, or adopting imposed belief systems. It is about gently purifying and balancing your own channel, so you can be fully present in your body, your life and your truth.
When approached with sincerity, humility, and self-awareness the chakras reveal themselves as living teachers from within. In this way, the journey remains anchored in authenticity, clarity and self-trust. Awakening is therefore not something outside of you, but what has always been alive within.
For this reason, in my upcoming journey through the chakras we will be working with the seven major chakras approaching them with clarity, respect, and refinement. These centres are portals of awareness, each reflecting a fundamental dimension of the human and spiritual experience.
Awaken the Inner Purr is a journey through the chakras guided by feline archetypal awareness. Each week we will explore a new energy centre through the lens of a feline archetype. Just as cats move through life with presence, rhythm, and instinctive awareness, you are invited to attune your own energy in the same way. This work is not focused on awakening kundalini, nor is it an attempt to activate or impose any external force upon the body. Rather, it is an exploration of the energetic centres as they relate to your lived experience and as a way for you to consciously work with your own life force that is already present within you.
Over time, many teachings and lineages have arisen around the chakra system. Some are rooted in true wisdom, others shaped by misunderstanding, ego, or external influence. Across authentic traditions, the true purpose of kundalini has never been external validation, performance, or pursuit of power outside oneself. Its essence is the awakening of inner authority, presence, and embodied awareness. When this is misunderstood or rushed, the work loses its grounding and can drift into distortion.
No matter where you are on your journey, the chakras meet you exactly there. So if you’re ready to feel your energy ripple, spiral, and purr through every part of your being… this is your invitation to step fully into the feline frequency experience.
