Keepers of the Pulse: Cats, Snakes, and Embodied Life Force

There’s an ancient current of energy that lives inside everybody. It is known as the life force energy that is always present, pulsing and waiting to rise. Yogic philosophy calls it kundalini and describes it as a serpent coiled at the base of the spine. Mystics often describe it as an inner fire or as Chi. however we choose to name it, it is the same vital energy current that connects us to the rhythm of life.
It isn’t just reserved for mystics, yogis or for people having dramatic spiritual awakenings. It’s instinctual. It is earthy. It is the intelligence of the body remembering its own power.
The energy moving is the feminine manifestation in the body. It’s the part of us that feels, creates, responds and knows without needing to think. It is the current that moves us from survival into presence, from tension into expression and from disconnection back into heart centred wholeness.
As this life force begins to move, it doesn’t make us more “spiritual.” It makes us more human, more embodied and ultimately more alive. And as it rises, it naturally meets the masculine qualities within us: the stillness, clarity, awareness and grounded presence. Through this meeting we begin to embody a deeper sense of union and inner wholeness not just as a concept but as a lived and felt experience in the nervous system and in the body.
This is not something we need to chase; it arises naturally when we allow it. The body already knows how to heal, regulate, create, and evolve.
Snakes have long been recognized as symbols of this life force.
And yet, snakes… they’re not exactly cuddly creatures, are they?
But cats… cats are the divine embodiment.
Gods dressed in fur.
To me, they’re the mammal reflection of the serpent. They are graceful, fluid, and utterly attuned to the pulse of life.
The more I investigated, the more I realised: Snakes and cats are mirrors of the same archetypal energy.
Both sleep coiled. Wrapped in themselves with their bodies spiralled.
Both have vertical pupils, eyes that pierce the dark, seeing beyond the shadows and illusions.
Both hiss when they feel threatened, vibrating the sound of a boundary and of fierce power.
Both are flexible. The serpent spirals, the cat stretches. They teach us that fluidity is survival.
Both are predators, hunters who conserve energy until the right moment, reminding us of focus and of precision.
Both carry layers of superstition and mystery, snakes are symbols of wisdom and rebirth; cats are worshiped as sacred guardians. Both are feared and honoured in equal measure.
And it doesn’t stop there. Snakes shed their skin, Cats shed their fur.
Both carry the medicine of renewal, of letting go.
Both move in silence, embodying the power of presence and of subtle influence.
Both are extremely sensitive to vibration. Snakes taste the air, Cats sense through their whiskers.
They remind us to listen to the hidden language of our bodies and instincts.
Both are guardians of thresholds;
Snakes are seen at the gates of temples,
Cats are mystical beings that move between worlds.
Both hold a hypnotic power.
The serpent entranced by rhythm and the cat entrancing us with its gaze and its purr.
And both are connected to healing. The serpent symbolises medicine, the cat’s purr heals bones and calms the nervous system.
The snake and the cat mirror one another. Both feared, both sacred, both keepers of mystery.
So when I weave them together, the snake reveals raw life force, the spiral energy pulsing through creation; the cat shows us how to live embodied, graceful, attuned and even loving.
They remind us that the life force within isn’t meant to be controlled or feared. It’s meant to be embraced, exemplified, and expressed.
The spiral, the serpent and the cat it all points to the same truth: That deep within us is a pulse, a vibration, a current waiting to be awakened.
And when you tune into it just like the serpent coiling, or like the cat purring, you too come alive.

Just as cats move through life with presence, rhythm, and awareness, you too can learn to tune into your own energy. In my Feline Frequency course, we journey through the chakras, exploring how to awaken, embody, and flow with these energy centres.
